In a powerful demonstration of compassion and community solidarity, the Dachung Musa Bagos Foundation carried out a multifaceted humanitarian intervention at the Riyom Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp, delivering critical relief items, medical care, and hygiene education to vulnerable families.
The Foundation’s outreach program included the donation of food items and clothing, a free medical outreach, and a comprehensive sanitation and hygiene sensitisation campaign—all aimed at improving the living conditions and dignity of displaced persons.
In a moving welcome address, His Royal Highness, Gwom Rwei Riyom, Da Samuel Jok, commended the Foundation for its people-centred approach, stating, “This gesture shows that true leadership is not about position, but about identifying with the people, especially in their moments of pain. The Dachung Musa Bagos Foundation has reminded us that we are not forgotten.”
The Red Cross Camp Coordinator, Mrs. Chundung Dyek, described the intervention as “a miracle and an answered prayer,” revealing that the camp had not been able to provide meals for its residents in over three weeks due to dwindling supplies. “Today, children will eat. Today, the sick will be treated. Today, hope has returned,” she said emotionally.
The Foundation’s outreach went beyond material support, adopting a holistic model of care that addressed both physical and emotional well-being. Key highlights of the day included:
– Free medical services: Malaria testing, treatment for common illnesses, and general health screenings.
– Haircuts for children and hair washing for women – restoring dignity and boosting morale.
– Communal cooking using donated food items, ensuring warm meals were shared by all.
– Sanitation drive: Drainage clearing and waste management exercises conducted in partnership with the Plateau State Environmental and Sanitation Protection Agency (PESPSA).
– Hygiene sensitisation: Educational sessions on handwashing, disease prevention, and environmental cleanliness.
The Foundation also distributed essential foodstuffs and clothing to hundreds of displaced men, women, and children, many of whom fled violence in their communities and now rely on humanitarian support for survival.
